It's called faith

Several weeks ago, the church I attend did a series on giving.  We used the book The Blessed Life to base the sermon on.

I didn't get very far in reading the book but I did hear most of the sermons.  Tithing and giving has always been something I've struggled with.  It's not only an internal struggle but it's also been a struggle with my husband.

He has a great heart and I truly believe he believes in God but he doesn't believe you need to give 10%, I do although it's only been a fairly recent conviction.  I really believe that the first 10% of my pay needs to go to God.  Afterall, if it weren't for Him, I wouldn't have my job.  If it weren't for Him I wouldn't still have my job, cause goodness knows I would rather be able to do what I want when I want instead of having to deal with a job.

Starting a couple of weeks ago I started tithing fully.  I still have not told my husband and I know I need to.  That's a whole other blog though :)  I can tell you that tonight as I'm working through the bills and calenderizing them all that I realized if I kept that 10% it would be so much easier to pay all those bills this month.

I ended up needing 4 new tires today.  We received our escrow shortage bill today.  We need to pre-pay on our 2010 local taxes this month.  My $18 fee for activating my new phone which I surprisingly needed last month (yet another blog) was added to my bill that is due this month.  Christmas is only 2 months away and I need to start shopping for it.  I still owe our contractor $1500.  I'm feeling way overwhelmed right now.

But I'm going to trust that God knows what he is doing and I'm going to have faith that everything will work out in the end.  God is in control right?  And it really is called faith right?

Comforter

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV). Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.......

What great verses these are.  God is our comforter and not only that, God wants us to comfort those who are in trouble.  We are to pass it on.

How often do you have an opportunity to pay it forward or to even start the ball rolling on others to pay it forward?  Look around you, do you see someone who could use a little comfort?  Someone that needs cheered up?

Today I was out picking up a couple things from the grocery store.  This store requires you to use a quarter in order to get a cart.  Stupid me, doesn't think about this until I get to the store every single time.  Usually I have change in my cup holder or the bottom of my purse.  Today I had no quarters either place because I had used my change to buy something earlier this week.  Luckily I found one on the floor of my car (my 4 year old loves change and also loves leaving it lay around).

After I got a few things and put them in my car, I went to return the cart and there was a nice older gentleman coming to get one.  You know what I did?  I gave him my cart and told him to keep his quarter.

I know it wasn't much but it felt good to do something for someone else and ya know what?  I think I'm going to do that more often and expand it to something else too.

Who can you provide comfort to this week?  How can you pay it forward or get the ball rolling and allow someone else to pay it forward?  Challenge yourself to find one person to comfort this week, ya never know what one little thing will do for someone :)

What Faith Can Do

This song is my church, Christ Wesleyan Church, themed song.  Take a moment to really listen to the words.  If we believe in Him, faith is all we need.
